What is Clearcut?
Clearcut is an online image background remover and editor. Upload a photo, remove the background, refine the cutout and download a transparent PNG. It supports individual images, bulk editing and a developer API.
Can I remove a background for free?
When you have no credits, you can try up to five Fast background removals per day, with images up to 12 megapixels. The free allowance is subject to shared network and service capacity limits. This daily website allowance does not include Fine processing or API usage. Verified accounts also receive 30 free credits each calendar month, shared by the website and API: 30 Fast images or 15 Fine images. These credits renew on the first of the month (UTC), do not roll over, and are used before purchased credits.
Do I need a subscription?
No. One-time credit packs and monthly subscriptions are both available. One-time packs start at $3 for 30 credits and do not expire. Prices are in US dollars before applicable tax.
How many credits does an image cost?
Fast background removal costs one credit per image. Fine costs two credits. Smart Brush costs one credit and generating an AI background costs three credits. Ordinary editor changes do not use processing credits.
What is the difference between Fast and Fine?
Fast is intended for quick everyday cutouts. Fine spends more processing time on detailed images. Results depend on the subject and background; use the editor to inspect and refine edges before downloading.
Which image formats can I upload?
You can upload JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 22 MB, paste an image, or supply an accessible HTTP or HTTPS image URL. Download transparent results as PNG.
Can I process multiple images?
Yes. Clearcut supports multiple image uploads, individual edits and ZIP downloads. Each processing operation uses the applicable credits or free allowance.
Does Clearcut have a background removal API?
Yes. The API supports image background removal, asynchronous jobs and related editing operations. API access requires an API key and credits. Verified accounts receive 30 free credits every month, shared with the website. For more, buy a credit pack from $3 or subscribe. Start with the public quickstart and OpenAPI specification.
Are my images processed locally?
No. Images are uploaded for cloud processing. Clearcut files expire after 60 minutes, so download results you want to keep. Provider retention can differ; the privacy policy explains the processing services and retention details.
Is Clearcut part of remove.bg or Canva?
No. Clearcut is an independent service operated by chern0.dev in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is not affiliated with remove.bg, Canva or Leonardo.Ai.
Do monthly credits expire?
Free monthly credits expire at the next renewal on the first of the month (UTC), with no rollover. Each paid monthly subscription grant expires after 60 days. One-time credit packs do not expire. You can review your balance and manage billing from your account.
