Clearcut’s prices buy more removals at the entry tier. Your real cost still depends on usage, quality mode, unused credits and optional edits.
Compare the same task first
A background remover can charge for processing, download resolution or extra editing. Compare a full-resolution cutout with a full-resolution cutout before comparing the price. A low-resolution preview is a different deliverable.
On 10 September 2026, the remove.bg pricing page in USD displayed an entry monthly plan of $9 for 40 credits. Its credit guide says an HD background removal costs one credit. Clearcut’s Starter plan is $9 for 500 credits: one per Fast removal, or two per Fine detail removal.
Prices are in USD before tax. This comparison covers the observed entry tier, not every remove.bg volume or enterprise plan.
What does $9 a month buy?
HD removals at $9/month
Fast removals at $9/month
Using every included credit, the rates are $0.225 per remove.bg HD removal and $0.018 per Clearcut Fast removal. That is 92% lower per removal for Clearcut at these two entry tiers. It is arithmetic about price and allowance, not proof that the engines produce equal results.
For Fine detail, the same Clearcut balance covers 250 images. If you process only ten images during a billing period, dividing your bill by a plan’s maximum allowance overstates the value you actually received. Estimate your volume before choosing a subscription.
The free allowances solve different problems
Clearcut provides five Fast website removals a day at up to 12 MP without signup. A shared-IP limit and shared service capacity also apply, so five is an allowance rather than a capacity guarantee. This fits a small number of useful downloads.
remove.bg’s help page describes free website previews up to 0.25 MP for personal use, plus 50 free preview API/app calls per month. Verified Clearcut accounts receive 30 free credits per calendar month, shared by the website and API: 30 Fast images or 15 Fine images. These renew on the first (UTC) with no rollover. Further API calls require purchased credits. They do not consume Clearcut’s free website allowance, and smaller API output still costs the normal processing credits.
If your integration mostly needs recurring free previews, that difference matters. If you want a handful of larger website downloads, Clearcut’s free output limit is the more relevant comparison.
Budget for the work you expect to finish
| Plan | Monthly price | Fast images | Fine detail images |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $9 | 500 | 250 |
| Creator | $19 | 1,500 | 750 |
| Studio | $49 | 6,000 | 3,000 |
| Scale | $149 | 20,000 | 10,000 |
An example: 1,000 Fast images in a month
The Creator plan includes 1,500 credits for $19. Processing 1,000 Fast images uses 1,000 credits and leaves 500 for other work. If you attribute the whole monthly bill to those 1,000 images, the effective cost is $0.019 per image—not the lower rate calculated from using every included credit.
For a mixed workload of 800 Fast images and 200 Fine detail images, processing uses 1,200 credits. Add ten Smart Brush requests and two generated scenes, and the total becomes 1,216. At the current catalog, that still fits within Creator, leaving 284 credits. Uploading a replacement background, manual editing and repeat exports add no processing credits.
For 1,000 Fine detail removals you need 2,000 credits. That exceeds Creator on its own. Compare a larger subscription with the one-time packs on the pricing page; a plan with many unused credits is not automatically the cheapest fit.
Check expiry as carefully as the unit price
Clearcut paid subscription credits expire 60 days after issue. Free monthly credits expire at the next renewal, on the first (UTC). One-time pack credits do not expire. Files have a separate one-hour retention window. Keeping credits does not keep uploaded images available indefinitely.
Clearcut does not buy extra credits or charge overages automatically. When the balance is insufficient, processing pauses. Failed jobs return their reserved credits. The current remove.bg pricing page states that its pay-as-you-go credits expire at the December shutdown; check its current terms before making a purchase there.
